Be “You” to be “Well”

At the end of Pride Month the one thing that I felt we need to focus and celebrate on is “I” factor – the most important aspect of our lives. It is time to look beyond the obvious, beyond our name, gender, colour, language and so many other things that we battle in our minds to conform to. Sometimes we need a deeper sense of identity or be ready to accommodate a more complex understanding of the situation in which we find ourselves in. Whatever the case, the question of who we are is a seed that can bear much fruit.

Understanding who you are and what makes you tick (or not) is empowerment. The beauty of Ayurveda is just this – allowing you to live by just “being you”. When we go past the understanding of Vata, Pitta, Kapha and the individualised diet and life-styles, we begin to realise that there is so much more. Our strengths, weakness, our attractions, addictions, relationships, work choices gently unfold with the wisdom of this science. And while we sink into this knowledge we realise that the more we live our lives for who we truly are, the more in sync we are with our heart and the environment, thus giving us a sense of peace and wellbeing.

As walls come down in houses and offices, making way for a more open plan living, so do we need to break the barriers of who we need to be or seen to be!  We are the same person, no matter where we are, so stand tall and enjoy the essence of being just “you” – uncompromising, totally bare and daring to scream “I am who I am”.
